Birmingham’s come a long way from the days of the original Bull Ring shopping centre, Spaghetti Junction and Rotunda! Many of its iconic buildings have had sympathetic make-overs or made way for redevelopment on a massive scale to reveal a fresh, vibrant city with plenty to offer anyone organising an event.
Urban chic at Rainbow Venues
With a real urban vibe, Rainbow Venues has 11 unique event spaces in the heart of Birmingham’s Digbeth area. The Pub is actually several spaces all under one roof, including The Courtyard and Cellar Door, all with their own unique feel. The Pub’s ‘not quite authentic’ Victorian feel manages to combine cosy with contemporary to great effect.
Plenty of natural light floods both the Rainbow Warehouse and the newest addition to the group, the Textile Factory which are great for product launches or creative events where anything more mainstream just won’t cut the mustard!
At the other end of the light scale is Black Box – the ultimate clubbing environment where low ceilings enclose the space and a superb sound system engulfs you in pristine sound.
There’s also a great roof terrace accessible from both the Warehouse and Black Box with fab views over Birmingham city centre.
With the option to provide street food too – there really is a shed load of choice in this quirky group of venues.
The Vox Centre & Genting Hotel
A modern, purpose built conference centre, slap bang in the middle of Resort World close to the NEC – the Vox can accommodate up to 800 delegates in a stylish event space that includes five suites and three boardrooms … all connected by some snazzy skyfold doors for maximum flexibility.
We particularly like the pre-function area, with its floor to ceiling windows that overlook the lake … plus there’s a nice little bonus for delegates who travel by train with a whopping 25% discount from Virgin.
For smaller residential conferences, the Vox works well with its neighbour the Genting Hotel, which has really fabulous bedrooms and suites … all served up with locally produced Heaven skincare products! Although the hotel itself can only host small boardroom or training events, if you’ve got more than 20 people coming, it’s straightforward to spill over into The Vox next door!
There’s an altogether different feel at Edgbaston – the home of Warwickshire County Cricket club – where more traditional event space caters for anything from ten to 600 delegates. There’s a great conference suite with a drive in space, ideal for exhibitions and awards dinners or Christmas parties, plus a root top area with views across the pitch – perfect for pre-dinner drinks receptions.
The Town Hall
For a more traditional, historical venue head to Birmingham Town Hall … a majestic grade 1 listed building, perfect for gala dinners and award evenings. There’s space for up to 350 for a dinner in the main hall, with foyer and bar space for pre-dinner drinks or refreshments too. We loved this space.
Even with all the work going on around this area – as the final remnants of the old Central Library are being cleared – delegates can still get dropped off right outside the front of the building and it’s an imposing sight that will only get better once the work’s all done and dusted.
As the old library is torn down, the new library has quickly become an iconic building in the city … for all the right reasons!
For us as event professionals, it offers really inspiring spaces in a great setting with plenty of options for different events.
Although only available for private hire in the evening (because it is a library after all … so it’s open to the public most of the time) it has a direct link through to the Rep theatre where halls and a lecture theatre can be used during the day. So a great combination with loads of flexibility.
The secret garden was a real surprise and with an event team open to suggestions on different ways to use the space, we’re really excited at the opportunities this impressive building has to offer.
So … just a few of the highlights Birmingham has to offer. There’s so much more to tell you so if you like the sound of anything here, get in touch and we’ll share what we know.
